7 benefits of working as a consultant

7 benefits of working as a consultant

At BETWEEN we have a great variety of technological profiles and, despite diversity, most of them share a common feature: consultancy. That’s why today we would like to talk to you about the benefits of working as a consultant.

If you have recently finished your engineering degree, or if you are thinking of making an about-face and shift 180 degrees your professional career, working as a consultant is one of the options that will have probably come to your mind or may have been suggested to you, given the great number of consultancy job offers.

Leaving aside the typical image of the business attire that is usually associated with consultancy -and that really depends on the company and the final client your work for- there are a series of obvious benefits that working as a consultant will provide to your career.

  • High employability. The consultancy business is continuously growing (in 2015 it reached €11.720 million after growing a 5.1%), and every day, week and month new job opportunities for engineers who would like to become part of the consultancy world are generated. You won’t lose out on work!
  • Each day is different. If there is a word that someone working as a consultant is not used to, that word is “monotony”. Consultancy is a changing and challenging job, and every new client and project are, in fact, like moving to another company at the same time that you get the chance of meeting new professional challenges where you will be able to learn and put into practice your knowledge.
  • Even though your aim will be to shine on your own merit and develop your professional career at the maximum, consultancy work equals teamwork, and gaining, keeping or losing a client might depend on it. Furthermore, you will also get the chance to learn from other consultants’ knowledge and experience.
  • If any job provides us with experience, working as a consultant allows you to get involved in a great number of very different projects, so you will be able to get to know different areas where to learn and apply new knowledge and skills.
  • Continuous training. As a consultant, you will need to get used to changes, so you will require continuous training which, in addition, will allow you both to grow professionally and to enrich your career.
  • Consultancy is also based on work relationships and meeting new people. It will help you nourish your agenda with contacts related to your sector, and you will also be able to show them your know-how.
  • Wide knowledge of the business world. Despite the fact that the solutions you will be implementing will be technological, you will carry them out for financial, HR, logistics or marketing departments, among others. This allows you to have a general extensive knowledge of the business world that you wouldn’t otherwise be getting.

Networking: an extra benefit

One of the benefits of working as a consultant that people like the most is its social facet. You will get new networking opportunities either at lunchtime, out of office or even in team-building events. They are all great occasions for creating bonds with your team and your clients!

As you can see, working in consultancy is a world full of advantages that will allow you to grow professionally and that, at the same time, will give you the opportunity to acquire an experience that few other profiles would offer. So, what about you? Have you worked, or are you working as a consultant? What do you like the most about it?
